The study of Speech & Drama will help to develop:
effective oral communication of the written word
interpretive and technical skills
knowledge and appreciation of literature
poems and drama
acting performance
self-confidence and public-speaking skills.
Whatever the students age or aspirations, it will equip them with a range of skills that will serve them throughout life.
Approximately 200 students from Years 3-13 work towards their LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) Examinations in either ‘The Speaking of Verse and Prose’, ‘Acting’, 'Speaking in Public' or ‘Musical Theatre for the Actor/Singer’. They also have a variety of opportunities to perform throughout the School year in front of adjudicators at the Bedfordshire Festival of Music, Speech & Drama or at our own Showcase Evenings and Tea-Time Presentations.
Each weekly lesson is 30 minutes in length with Years 3-8 being taught in groups of four, Years 9-13 either in pairs, or individually.
Senior LAMDA examiners have been impressed by the numbers of BMS students studying Speech & Drama, and that the School incorporates these lessons into its daily timetable.
